Hi John,
Just wanted to let you know that Bobby-Robert (Sal) Salcido from our class passed away on Monday the 24th.
Heard from his sister Loretta (1956) this afternoon.  He was married to Darlene (Wooten) Rupe for 20 years, they had 4 kids.

All of us were friends for those years.  We still stayed in touch with Bobby after the divorce.

His kids took him off life support after two days.
I am happy I did talk to him about reunion business.

11/05/08 Pat  Secour-Wolff's husband Pete Wolff passed away at St Johns Hospital after a major stroke at home on Saturday 11/1.

Pat wrote: Pete passed away at 10:55 this evening with both of his children there...... it was very peaceful and he definitely is in a better place.

05/01/2008 Ivan Benham  from his friend Jack McCluan

06/21/2008 Johnnie Jarvie from Mike Slater

I am so sorry to report that my oldest friend, John Jarvie, passed away in Mid-May of 2008. John, or Johnny as you might have known him, was the charismatic yell king of the Venice High 1955 cheerleader squad made up of he, Pete Farina and Gary Collins. I first met John around 1944, when we were both about seven years old (was Truman president? Were we still at war with Japan?) We attended a lot of schools together over the years, all in the greater Venice area.....Nightingale Elementary, Mark Twain Jr. High, Venice High, Santa Monica City College and the University of Hawaii (yes, Hawaii is part of the greater Venice area). John was always everyone's favorite friend....he liked everybody and was truly interested in you as a person, no matter who you were. In recent years, John & I fell in, again, with evil companions...... our old buddies from the Gents of Venice. We started going on Golf junkets or whatever in Washington State, Las Vegas and Baja Mex. Once again John was our cheerleader and the life of the party.

J.J. we'll catch up with you later in the (really greater Venice) beyond - for now, a fond Aloha.....your buddy Mike Slater and your "other mother" Barbara Slater

12/02/06 Edward John Ollerton S55

John and others

Edward John Ollerton, known to us as Joe Lohr died about 2 PM today, December 2nd, 2006.

Joe has passed on to an easier time... At least that is what I believe. No more pain, not a prolonged suffering, yet gone from our lives.

I celebrate Joes life today, that I have been lucky enough to have known him. And for many years. We would meet when we got to Phoenix a couple of times a year. Never enough time together, usually at dinner (and pie) time. Joe always enjoyed reliving some of the crazy times we had at Venice High and several other locales. I think I spent more time at Joe's house than at my own. Joe's mother Elsie Lohr was my "other mother" and we drank coffee into the wee hours many times.

When we attended the VHS '55 reunion in May of 2005, Joe and Diana took Betsy and I to see where Elsie was buried.

I have been befriended and enriched by Joe and his family. I hope you knew him well also.

Hugh Neas

12/17/05 Alida Belle Anderson-Bush

Alida passed away peacefully after her five year battle with cancer. Her spirit, faith and courage were strong to the end, but her body betrayed her. We know that she is at home with her Lord and that she already has her resurrection body. I am including some information about putting the final touches on her life, please feel free to forward it to whomever you think would like to know.
The memorial service for Alida will be held Tuesday, December 20, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, 7702 Westminster Blvd. Westminster, CA, 92683; and will be followed by a reception at 12 Noon.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made on behalf of Alida Belle Bush to “The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas TX, 75265-0309”.
Thank you for your prayers and concerns.
Ed Bush

12/7/05 Jim Myers

I write this email with a heavy heart. Last Wednesday, December 7th my "media naranja" (better half) died. It was a short illness for Jim and brain death from cardiac arrest (not a heart attack--it was neurological) took him. In Mexico they, by law, will not remove the ventilator, but the Doctors finally agreed and they stopped all artificial life support at noon on Wednesday and he went to sleep peacefully at 8:15 p.m.
Jim's dream was to build his house in Mexico. We lived here, loved here, laughed here, cried here and got angry here (at the Mexican gov't). But Jim was able to totally live his dream by dying here. I will complete his dream after the first of the year by spreading his ashes over Banderas Bay.
Some of you are friends of mine that Jim never met. But he knew you through me. Others of you are friends that I have made through Jim. He had a special feeling for each and every one of you.
Raise a glass (even if it's water) and help celebrate the man I loved with all my heart and was the heart of our home.
God Bless All of You
Syd Myers
